Friterie Antoine

Place Jourdan, 1040 Brussels

Reportedly the best friture in Brussels. Get your paper bag of frîtes with mayonnaise or one of approximately 25 sauces and sit down just opposite at 'Chez Bernard' and have a drink. They are totally ok with you bringing in your food.

Really.

Café Belga

Place Eugène Flagey Plein, B-1050 Bruxelles, t +32 2 640 35 08

Hip coffee house and bar, always packed with the young local Brussels crowd. In the summer you can sit outside – if you find a free table. Make sure to get some cheese with your bière blanche.

Le cercle des voyageurs

Not far from the Grand Place, near the Manneken Pis statue. Combined bar and book shop. Post-colonial style. Try the 'thé à la menthe fraîche'.

Le Pain Quotidien

It's a chain of restaurants, but all of them are very nice and cosy. Perfect for a snack or a coffee but most of all try their breakfast! For example on Place de Grand Sablon. On weekends you can visit the antique flea market afterwards.

Raconte-moi des salades

Raconte-moi des salades
The restaurant to go to with your girlfriend (but make sure to book a table). Great choice of salads you have never seen before.
