Skopik & Lohn

Skopik&Lohn, Leopoldsgasse 17, 1020 Vienna, t +43-1-219 89 77
In the heart of Vienna's 2nd district, near Karmelitermarkt. The interior looks a little bit like an exploded zebra, but in summer the garden is wonderful. Untypically for Vienna, tables are set outside on the sidewalk under some trees.
Small and constantly changing menue. The kitchen is combining Viennese classcis with modern and lighter elements, for example filets of samlet ('Saibling', an Austrian sweet-water fish) with thyme risotto was a revelation.

A cosy and familial restaurant with modern German cuisine and very friendly and heartily service. You feel very welcome. One of the better restaurants in Mainz, not easy to find something similar there. Prices are moderate, booking is an advantage. Try the Weissburgunder from Tesch they offer.

Monsieur Vuong

Monsieur Vuong, Alte Schönhauser Str. 46, 10119 Berlin-Mitte
You cannot book a table in advance at Monsieur Vuong and long queues on weekend nights make it easy to guess why. Also you will be placed at tables together with other people you don't know.
The menu offers only a small vareity of Vietnamese dishes. The main attration, however, is a menu with a choice of one starter and two main courses that is changing every other day and prepared freshly for you.
If you don't mind this concept, you will enjoy excellent Vietnamese cuisine in a vibrant atmosphere and for moderate prices.

Steakhouse in sight of Capitol Hill. Typically American large cut steaks (yummi!), great choice of wines (although they confuse German and Austrian wines), adequate prices. Also attached is a bar where you can have a cigar. For the regular customer there are lockers for his private stock of wine, whiskey or cigars. Classic.

Pimp up my Currywurst!
Poshest currywurst stand North of the Alpes. At least. Enjoy the traditional sausage along with a glass of Pinot Grigio or Moet and enjoy the fantastic view. Very scenic sunsets. Located next to Vielmeer.

Friterie Antoine
Place Jourdan, 1040 Brussels
Reportedly the best friture in Brussels. Get your paper bag of frîtes with mayonnaise or one of approximately 25 sauces and sit down just opposite at 'Chez Bernard' and have a drink. They are totally ok with you bringing in your food.
Really.
Le Pain Quotidien
http://www.painquotidien.com/
It's a chain of restaurants, but all of them are very nice and cosy. Perfect for a snack or a coffee but most of all try their breakfast! For example on Place de Grand Sablon. On weekends you can visit the antique flea market afterwards.

Pasteis de Belem
www.pasteisdebelem.pt
Rua de Belem 84-92, 1300-085 Lisboa
Traditional Portuguese 'pastelaria' since 1873. The original.
Delicious 'pastéis de nata' in a nice cafe among blue 'azulejos'. These small cakes are served still warm and you eat them with some cinnamon on top. Delicious! A 'bica' (espresso) or 'galao' (cafe latte) goes well along the pasteis.
Make sure to take away a box of six 'pasteis' for those left behind at home.

Dinnercafe Wenders

Directly at the Prinsengracht, in summer you can also sit outside. A friendly gay couple is preparing a very good combination of Dutch and Indonesian food.
Try the 'garnelenkroketjes' as a starter.

Casanova
Cais da Pedra, Loja 7 , Doca do Jardim do Tabaco, Alfama, Lisboa, t 21 887 7532
Very hip Italian restaurant directly at the river Tejo. Young and informal audience and always crowded, you might need to queue for a while, but pizza and the view on the river are worth the wait.
To call a waiter you have to switch on the red bulb that hangs above every table.
